It didn’t take an awful lot of thought to be very pessimistic about this transfer window.
Not wanting to do him a disservice, but whilst Ryan Fraser’s numbers over the last few seasons aren’t too shabby, I can’t think of a single Arsenal fan who was enthused by the prospect of him joining us.
So well, he didn’t. We swapped that little Scottish nightmare for Pepe.
We discovered that Club Captain Laurent Koscielny wanted out. I don’t want to talk more about that for now, but dear god there’s going to be something said.
We replaced him with David Luiz, excellent business.
We sold Corporal Jenkinson, truly one of our own to Notts Forest.
We replaced him with long time target Kieran Tierney. Wow.
We let Aaron Ramsey go for free, a heart-breaking bit of business.
We replaced him with Dani Ceballos. Wow.
We let Danny Welbeck go for free, plenty to argue either way but it never worked out for him and I’m not upset he’s gone.
We’ve promoted Reiss Nelson to replace him. A tremendous, precocious talent. Can’t wait to see him get more minutes.
We’ve sold Iwobi for £28 million plus several add-ons up to £40 million. A good bit of business for an academy player who had flashes of genius but never really nailed down a spot for me.
His ability to dribble and trick past opponents is great, but his lack of composure and finishing skills always counted badly against him.
Never a winger, he’s been replaced with Joe Willock in the squad. Joe’s smashed it in Pre-season and deserved a spot in the squad.
There’s still more outbound business I suspect given the European window is still open, so I expect Elneny to go.
A stunning window, plugging clear holes in the squad with great talent. Top that off with rumoured contract extensions for Lacazette and Aubameyang and we’ve taken this window out the back and shot it.
Great job Raul Sanllehi, great plan.
Much much more to come from me tomorrow.
