It’s on. Like really on. Arsenal vs Burnley, tomorrow at 12:30.
That is very exciting. More exciting than that, our new players and returning players have had another week of fitness work and preparation and are likely to see an increased involvement.
But, what will that mean for Willock and Nelson, who both in different ways justified their selections against Newcastle.
We all know a good season is built on making your home stadium a fortress, somewhere that teams simply do not want to go and you feel invincible there. That all resets on the first game of the season and Burnley aren’t going to simply roll over and take it.
We need to blow them away, put down a marker and show the teams that we won’t be cowed at home. We also need to give key minutes to the likes of Torreira, Pepé, Ceballos, Luiz. Especially with the Bindippers coming up on the 24th August.
Will Emery start Pepé and Ceballos, probably not. They need more time to integrate with the squad and get used to the pace of the league. I think Ceballos is closer on this than Pepé having a better pre-season. I can see Luiz starting however, needing to get on-pitch minutes before Liverpool.
I think we will line up a bit like we did at Newcastle, as below;
Emery will be desperate to give more minutes to Pepé, Ceballos and Torreira so if the game is settled with Arsenal holding a lead I expect to see early introductions for all of them.
I imagine that will prompt a minor tweak in the formation as well to look something like this..
I’ll admit, that’s kinda shit-your-pants exciting. I really would like to see us have a proper go at Burnley. At this stage its crucial to keep knocking up points against the “lesser teams” given our upcoming fixtures.
Lets do this Arsenal. Come on you Gooners.
