He’s been everyone’s fantasy signing for years. Consistent, exciting, creative, goal-scoring – few would have turned their nose up at his signing should we have been able to snaffle him up at some point during his glittering career.

Now however, is not that time. He’s not the Ibrahimovic we dreamt of signing. He is very much in the twilight of his career. I am excited and saddened at the thought that we will see him in the Premier League next season, excited because I’ve wanted to see him test himself against the best the Premier League has to offer, but saddened because it will be little more than one last adventure for him and I’m certain he isn’t on our radar.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was famously courted by Arsene years ago, but refused an invite to come over for a trial, suggesting that he didn’t need a trial to be good enough for us. You can’t argue that he was correct, but I cannot imagine what it would be like trying to integrate that personality and that ego into a dressing room already filled with Denis Bergkamp, Patrick Viera, Freddie Ljungberg and Thierry Henry.

Yet by Christ I wish we’d tried.

What a player. You can type his name into YouTube and see hundreds of amazing goals, showcasing all sides of his game.

Zlatan will be 38 in October, his pace has left him and whilst his game doesn’t suffer from that, the Premier League is fast-paced and I believe, even with his talent he is just too old to make the transition.

So in short, not now Zlatan, but I’ll take your offspring. Maximillian and Vincent might just have a modicum of your ability and as such would be able to offer an awful lot to football and to Arsenal FC.

We’re being linked with Benzema again and whilst I recognise that we are woefully short in the striking department with the underperformance of Theo and the loss of Welbeck for most of the season I just cannot see this one happening. Benzema is not getting any younger and I just think there are better, younger, hungrier options out there.

My tip, I’d take Saido Berahino. He knows the league, he can play football and he will be available in the summer.

Of course, I’ll have NewsNow on constant refresh throughout the summer until Saido signs for the Scum.
